Spectrophotometric Determination of Ion Pair Extraction of Domiphen Bromide with Metanil Yellow

Abstract
The author investigated the application of extraction method of organic solvents in forming ion pair between quaternary ammonium salts, and metanil yellow (MY).
In the process of laboratory work, MY and domiphen bromide (DMP) were mixed and added the buffer solution to 10ml, and then the solution was shaken for 5 minutes.
The maximum absorption wavelength of the above stable solution which was extracted with dichloromethane was 402 nm, and it shifted 31 nm toward the long wavelength from 433 nm. In this experiment, the most suitable pH range was 2 " 8. Dichloromethane was the best of all other solvents as than 1.2-dichloroethane, chloroform, benezene, nitro-benzene and carbon tetrachlorode in the extraction solvents of ion pair which was formed between MY and DMP. By using the method continuous variation, the author investigated that the mole ratio of reaction products formed between MY and DMP was 1:1 ratio.
When made the DMP calibration curve to MY, in the best experimental condition, the Lambert-Beer¢¥s Law was obeyed in the range of DMP concentration 2.0 x 10-6 ~8.5 x 10-6 M.
